Local Walks in the Chilterns

We are located close to many local walks in the Chilterns. The Lacy Green walks website has a number of well described local walks, many passing close to our pub  http://www.petergoodearl.co.uk/laceygreen/

There is a section devoted to Speen that includes a circular walk that can be done from our pub car park and has a very detailed description including photographs of the areas passed through

The Ridgeway Footpath

The Ridgeway is an ancient trackway described as Britain's oldest road. At 87 miles (139 km), the route follows the chalk hills between Overton Hill near Avebury, and Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire and represents part of a route in use since Neolithic times. Specifically, the Ridgeway hugs the ridge tops of open downland west of the Goring Gap and the tree-covered Chiltern Hills east of the River Thames, thus avoiding once-difficult woods and marshes in the valleys below. Access to this footpath can be made via other footpaths that pass through Speen, or use our car park to base your walk from us. The image above shows a section of it close to Chequers. Please follow the links below to get more detailed information on the route.
